Application Checklist

  • Make sure you meet the minimum eligibility requirements:
    • At least three years of experience working as a lead architectural lighting designer
    • You have two to four projects in your portfolio that can be used to demonstrate competency in up to seven domains of practice
  • Register and create a personal login in order to access the online application form.
  • Complete and submit your application form online. You do not have to complete the form in a single session – your responses can be saved so that you can complete the application over multiple sessions, at your convenience.
  • Collect and submit the signed attestation forms for your various projects, or use the online application tool to distribute digital versions.
  • Sign the Code of Conduct included in the application.
  • Pay the application fee. The application fee is $625 USD. Professional members of approved lighting design associations receive a discounted price of $525 USD. 

Tips for Applying

  • Carefully read the CLD Candidate Handbook and the CLD Candidate Handbook Supplement.
  • Review all the application questions to understand what is required.
  • Identify two to four projects that you feel best demonstrate your competency in each of the required domains.
  • Your written responses should explain what you did, how you did it, and why.
  • Use simple, clear, and concise English for your application responses to ensure reviewers understand your intent.
  • Clearly annotate exhibits with descriptions about what they illustrate.
  • Remove all markings from project photos and exhibits that identify you or your firm to ensure anonymity in the review process.
  • Include no more than four images, or drawings as part of that exhibit on a single document, which should be no larger than A4 paper size.
